TV Crew Films at Hissho Sushi

This week we had some exciting visitors at Hissho.  I wish we could share the great news, but are “sworn to secrecy” until the right time.  However, I can tell you that things were hopping around Hissho’s Corporate Kitchen when a team of four showed up in their huge Mercedes van all the way from Canada to film us for a popular TV show.  The focus was on Hissho’s delicious food items, with one of our senior team members sharing some of the things that have made us so successful.  When the crew was finally able to take a break, they enjoyed our delicious sushi for lunch.
Our Corporate Chef and Assistant plied the tools needed to accommodate the requirements of an all day filming.  What an exciting process to see as memory card after memory card was filled with “great footage.”   This will all be edited down into a fascinating fast-paced clip that you will not want to miss.  We can’t share the name of the show, or the air dates yet, but as soon as we can, we will let everyone know.  It will be well worth the wait, so stay tuned to our Hissho Blog for upcoming news as it becomes available.

Knife Skills

One of the most important skills for any chef is to have excellent knife skills. This is especially true at Hissho for our sushi and Pan-Asian hot bar chefs. To see them at work in our kitchens is mesmerizing and entertaining. Remember when you were a child and first were allowed to use a knife? How awkward and uncomfortable it seemed in your hand as you tried to make it do what you wanted it to do.
These are skills are honed over a lifetime, and the ones that get it are awesome. Our Hissho chefs would put many to shame as their fingers fly so quickly you can hardly see them. And what they produce is a wonder. The Asian chefs who are also artistic are able to create so much beauty from simple fruits and vegetables.
A chef friend sent Hissho a Facebook post that we found fascinating, and we would like to share it with you. It’s a Japanese chef preparing traditional items with as much austerity as anyone I’ve seen. Hope you’ll enjoy as much as we did.

PRIDE Magazine Featured Hissho Sushi's CEO

PRIDE Magazine “Charlotte Multicultural Resource Magazine 2016 – 2017” has featured Hissho Sushi’s CEO Philip Maung on the Cover!
Publisher Dee Dixon, Editor-in-Chief Lashawnda Becoats, Writer Tonya Jameson, and Photographer Johathan Cooper have put together a wonderful story of how “Sushi made Philip Maung money, but his Values made him successful!”
May Vang, a former AND current employee says of Hissho that, “It was a very corporate style. I didn’t get the sense that there was a lot of teamwork and communication.” Why did she come back to Hissho? Read the article and find out. http://www.pridemagazineonline.com/sushi-made-philip-maung-money-values-made-him-successful/
Starting with the “From the Editor,” Becoats is generous with her comments on page 10; followed by the feature article starting on page 14 by Jameson.

Wearing Hissho’s Core Value T-Shirts With Pride

Our Regional Supervisor in the Alabama and Georgia area is staying really busy visiting sushi bars to make sure everything is in order. This is a task that is on-going as it not only insures everything is in compliance, but it gives the chefs a lift to know that someone cares enough to visit them individually, and it helps with the relationship building. Kudos to all of Hissho’s Supervisors across the Country for the great job they continue to do every day. Thank you!
Recently a request was made for some of Hissho’s Core Value T-shirts with a promise that photos would be taken to share with our readership. They were proud to oblige as seen in the following photos. The first 4 are all Sprouts markets which have the Oumi Sushi brand exclusive to Sprouts. Thank you to all of Hissho’s Chefs across the Country as they provide fresh sushi made daily for our customers.

Hissho Dives Into Core Value #5: Compassionate & Humble

Hissho’s Core Values team rallied the “troops” at HQ to bring in donations for an orphanage. The list was long, and included items such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, diapers, feminine napkins, baby wipe, cleaning wipes, shaving cream, bubble bath and anything else kids might need. The orphanage itself requested household items like dish and laundry detergent, household cleaners, extra-large trash bags, light bulbs and shower liners.
Most households have these staples on hand, but it may take a month or more to use up a container. But in a busy orphanage with 19 residents, plus staff, these supplies go really fast. With concern for the residents themselves, Hissho requested a “wish” list from each child. You’d expect something to come back like a “letter to Santa” list with multiple items on it. We were so surprised to see that each child only listed 1 item with an addendum from the staff for beach towels, swim shoes, and sun screen. You see, they have a beach trip planned for next week and nobody really had what was needed.
Through the heart and generosity of Hissho, the wish list was fulfilled. The bags are packed along with two large boxes of items, and our team heads out Thursday to deliver the “goodies.” We can’t wait to see their faces and hear the squeals of excitement as we deliver the Orange Bags.
Having a bit of fun while packing the bags!

Hissho Wows at IDDBA

Hissho attends a few trade shows each year, and the IDDBA Dairy-Deli-Bake Show at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, TX, is where many of our staff were this week. IDDBA stands for the International Dairy Deli Bakery Association and attendees come from all over the United States looking for new items that they can sell in their grocery stores. It’s a great place to see old friends and meet potential new partners for our Hissho Brand.
Hissho rolled out new items to show attendees what is available from Hissho in the coming months. The show also featured several speakers including the always-interesting Anthony Bourdain – who hasn’t seen him on CNN, the Travel Channel or talk shows over the years. He truly engages his audiences and our team loved this opportunity for the meet and greet.
This was an exciting time for Hissho that’s been months in preparation: menu decisions, props and essentials needed for the booth, logistics of how to get our equipment there and purchasing the food items for our needs. It’s a labor of love for our stellar team and we appreciate their expertise.
Below you will see some of the food items created by our Senior Corporate Chef as well as Mr. Bourdain in action. Let us know what you think.
